So I posted a thread about my sick polish. I read about all the diseases. I can't figure out what it is. Our turkeys, ducks, nor our seperate chickens have it but all the free range ones do. I've found all the symptoms: runny nose, puffy area around the eyes, breathing noises, & they fall over.... Not like all at once but slowly lean over.....I'm pretty sure it's a respiratory disease but which one? I'm not wanting to have to cull my whole flock. If necessary I would but I would prefer not to. Is there a generic treatment for all respiratory diseases or for specific ones?

Some of the common ones that cause those symptoms are mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG or CRD) and coryza, both of which make carriers of your flock. If there is a bad odor it could be coryza, and there are many strains of each from mild to severe. Tylan 50 injectable given as a shot into the breast for 3 days will treat those, and there is a Tylan Soluble Powder, Gallimycin, or Oxytetracycline that can be used in water. If leaning more toward coryza, sulfadimethoxine or Sulmet will treat it probably better, but it won't treat MG. Here is a list of diseases with symptoms and recommended treatments: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

What kind of smell does coryza cause?. There is a smell but I'm not sure if it's the chickens or some rotted eggs( the free range chicken go under our barn and we can't get to the eggs) ? Is Tylan available at local feed stores? Or is there some special places you have to go ? @Eggcessive
