So it's not looking so good. Still no egg and she is losing strength. Does anyone have any suggestions? We're pretty much at a loss now.

Well for chickens they soak the hens bottom in warm water...not sure you can do that with a tiel though..
I dont know... sorry.

Sometimes vets will suck the insides of the egg out through a syringe, and then break the shell to help her push it out. Perhaps suggest this method to them?

I'm
trying to find the name for it, as I'm sure this procedure has one. NOTE: I would NOT attempt to break the egg yourself. Just smashing it will lead to a dead bird. Yolk peritonitis is just one possible complication.

Fingers crossed that she pulls through okay.

Sorry it has been so long, but for anyone who is still following here is the update. about a week later she finally laid the egg, it was rather big and had calcified. She was extremely weak and still not eating or moving much. 2 days later my mom woke up and she had passed in the night. It was very sad and painful, especially after all of the suffering she had already gone through just to have the egg. We have since bought my mom a conure as we hear it is a great and loving pet. Thanks for all of your support, prayer and advice.

Awww I'm very sorry to hear!! I was hoping she would pull threw!! Poor sweet baby!

For the future- Make sure your birds stay on a "winter schedule" - that is 12 to 14 hours of quiet darkness every night- they'll be less prone to lay eggs. And always keep them on a healthy diet that includes fruit veggies and a fortified kibble/pellet (notice I didn't say seeds!). All birds can suffer from being egg bound- if they are strong and healthy to begin with it gives them a better chance of surviving.

I even have my male tiel following the above advice- and let me tell you a few late nights/ early mornings he's dr Jekyl Mr Hyde!! He starts scouting out territories to protect and its not fun!
