My cockerel, Billy, has been sick for a few weeks now. It started when we began feeding him cracked corn feed. He was eating that for about 3 weeks to a month. Now we are feeding him layena. He has had layena before and never had a problem with it. But now he only weighs about a pound and is very weak. He is boney and skinny, but still eats. I will not cull him because I believe I can nurse him back to health. He is sooooo sweet and I don't want to give up on him. Can someone please help me and tell me what they think is wrong? He is a Dominique mix and very cute!

How long has he been eating the proper food?

Corn is not a complete feed.

The plain corn could have done some damage to him that may take a while for him to recover from.
Can you get him some vitamins too?

Have you ever treated your flock for worms?
Can you collect some fresh poop and run it to a vet on Monday to have it tested for worms?

He and my flock were just wormed a few weeks ago. I gave him a little cake that I made. It contains layer feed, peanut butter which is rich in good fats, yogurt, raisins and water. He loved it and perked up a bit after eating it which is good.

He is a little heavier than yesterday but very weak. He ate layer crumbles, a tortilla, a mole cricket which he killed and devoured lol, and I got him to drink some sugar water. He foregaed a bit and has an appetite. I'm still so worried about him though. Especially since hurricane Irma is hitting tonight!

Stop feeding him "other" things.
Pick up small bad of starter or grower feed for him.

I've dealt with this before and what I'm feeding him is rich in good fats. I am in the middle of a hurricane, so I can't go get more food. I'm making do with what I have until Irma leaves! :)

Totally understandable...as soon as Irma leaves though......I would get him a higher protein feed.
Stay safe!
