Sick Duck- Could it be salmonellosis?

It's been my experience that young fowl are unlikely to have tumors.

Again, if the OP would answer all of the question asked we could offer better advice.

Two main questions are:
1) what are you feeding?
2) what tests did the vet do?

1) Proform Grower Poultry feed
2) no tests

I am doing my best to care for and alleviate my ducks suffering/illness. Going to the vet comes with a high price tag...he (the vet) has helped as much as he can without getting into costs I can't afford. He is confident in the feed and supplements I have been providing Opal and believes she may be suffering from ingesting aflatoxins. We are hopeful for recovery and continue to monitor Opal and do our best to get her the nutrients she needs. I appreciate the support and recommendations of others (but I can do without the negative comments and judgment).

I have a contact number for a Vet in Edmonton that works with Backyard Flocks...Ducks and Chickens...Contact me privately through conversation and I'll give you his number and he will direct you in the right direction with your Duck..

What are you feeding your duck that makes you think it is a salt toxicity? I am assuming that you are feeding her an All Flock Feed or a duck feed of some sort, correct? In your 1st post you state I currently give her a small pinch of Sulfa-vitamin powder mixed in about 500ml of water, with electrolytes and for probiotics I mix in the poop from one of my healthy ducks (as recommended by the vet). She is still eating and drinking on her own.
Do antibiotics have large amounts of sodium/salt? How much salt does the Sulfa vitamin have? or in the electrolytes? Does she have access to water with no supplements? Just tossing around some questions to get a clear understanding.

Also, have you had a chance to call and talk to the vet?

I understand that having tests is expensive, and that's all you needed to say. The title of this thread says one disease, but your first post says the vet suggested another disease.

You say you have given tetracyline, but you never said if it was powder, injection, or a pill. You also said you gave a sulfa drug, but you did not say how much you gave and if you gave both drugs at the same time. Details like this are *very* important.

Tetracyline and sulfa drugs works on some bacteria, but not all bacteria. I suggest that you call your vet and ask about about trying a better oral or injectable antibiotic.

Okay...Now I can Help ...
Possible west Nile but was not lethal...The swelling to the head could of been from Wasps and allergy reaction?..Antihistamine could of been tried...
Some vets see your money and do not know poultry or Water fowl..You can contact Sasks wildlife or I can give you that number I mentioned before...

If that does end up being the cause, she is one special girl. That can be nasty stuff. And I’m sorry it’s happened. My heart sank when I watched the video!:hugs

I had to stop the video, it was so heart wrenching. So sorry you and Opal are going through this. :hugs Please keep us updated, hoping she comes out of this soon. I'm sending you a private message.
