nope, I hadnt tried that yet. I think I will give it a shot when I get home. She is so weak I am scared it will push her over the edge, but at this point what do I have to loose?

I had a roo, he actually looked at me like, "thanks, mom" after a few times.
I caught it too late, and he died anyways. But he trusted me alot more because it did help him.
Plus, you don't know if she ate a rock, or something foreign that is blocking food from getting down.
Trying to empty her crop may dislodge it...

Try feeding her hand feeding formula for birds. You can get it from PetsMart. It comes in powder form and you mix it according to directions. This is normally used by people who raise parrots and so forth, but it works well when trying to rehab a sick chicken. Lots of calories and easily digested. Once mixed looks a lot like yogurt.

There is also a product made for birds that is designed to help restore beneficial bacteria in the crop and intestines. I think it's called benebac or something like that. The paste comes in a syringe like tube and can be mixed with the bird feeding formula. Most avian vets carry it and any vet can order it for you. This product is much, much more effective than the yogurt purchased in stores. Yogurt is pasteurized so most of the bacteria is destroyed. Benebac contains bacteria needed to aid digestion.

If you are dealing with a sour crop a product called ToxiBan works very well. This charcoal-based liquid is designed to bind toxins and flush it out of the system. This product is commonly used in Veterinary practice to treat dogs/cats who have eaten poisons in which vomiting cannot be induced. ToxiBan is a black liquid and is very messy.

You are absolutely correct in not stressing her by over handling. Sometimes less is more, and no matter what you try, nature will take its course.

Well, I did take her into the bathroom last night and rubbed, massaged, etc. her crop. I did not get anything to come up. The crop was small enough that i could mush it and put my thumb and forfinger together with the crop in between. i could not feel anything there butmaybe some liquids. I felt around for a long time and found something that felt like a kernal of corn. I tried my damnest to get it to come up but it wouldnt. After about 20 minutes of this and her being soooooo good I held her in my lap to try and comfort her.

When I had her flipped onher back I noticed two white almost 'blisters' on the bottoms of her feet. Picture typical bumble foot but white. No scab. There was no swelling, no redness, just the white spots. about pea sized. Wonder if that is any kind of infection? So, i went ahead and cut them open. No puss, no core. the only way i can describe it is a soft white flat spot on her foot. Really looked like bumble without a scab and core. I neosporined and wrapped up. She did seem better and ate a few mealworms. (she found them when I turned around grrrr) She did drink water.

This morning she looks bad. Sitting on a roost, but loosing weight quickly. Doesnt seem to have a fever. No miracle yet guys. no miracle yet.

Poor Frick. I hope at least one of the suggestions mentioned works out for her. She is getting a lot of loving nursing care.

I am probably going to have a lot of chicken luving nurses aids mad at me, but i brought Frick in to clean her feet from yesterdays ordeal. Cleaned, neosporined, wrapped, and tried to bribe with food. ANYTHING at this point. After no yogurt, no applesauce, nothing.... here's what I ended up with.



I know, I know. NOT good for a messed up body. Epecially head lettuce. NOTHING in it nutritionally. But at least it has a lot of water in it for her.

This is the first she has tried to eat in a week on her own and actually gotten something down her. She is trying to preen sitting on my kitchen table. I was so happy I ran outside to get my DH to see it!!!!! He was NOT amused that she is on my table..... maybe my miracle is here????
