I have a month old gosling that wont stand up. He was fine last night when I checked on him, but this morning he wouldn't stand up. He seems fine physically, but like I said, he wont stand up. He is living outside in a cage with another gosling and some ducklings(I just put them out about 5 days ago). I`m really worried about him and don't know what to do for him. The only thing I can think is that I had to feed him some layer feed for a few days when we ran out of chick started(the starter is non medicated). Could layer feed do this to him? Someone in another post also mentioned a niacin deficiency. Could that be it? If so, is there something I can give him besides pure niacin until I can get to the store? How much should I give him? I have lots of B vitamins, but no B3.

Pick him some grass, dandelion greens, i chop mine up for my goslings long tough peices can bind them up. geese need to graze. Does he get exercise? Time out in the yard?
Niacin dosage is 100mg per gallon of water dissolved in it and 100mg-150mg per cup of food. Get regular niacin NOT flush free or no flush kind and not time released, they dont work like the regular.

Don't forget to offer grit when giving anything besides their starter feed.

Thanks! I gave him some grass this morning and he ate some of it...I give them grass every to every other day...not dandelion grass tho. Would that make a difference? They don't really get out of the yard yet, but they are in a very large dog pen so they can run around quite a bit(they were pretty cooped up when they were inside tho). Also, I just found out that one of my friends has B3. Should I still give that to him? If so how much?

Sand would work. Dandelion greens is a good treat for them its also good for them. Other than that im not sure what else to do for him.
Last year i had 50 chicks i was raising, ran out of starter and gave them laying mash for the last feeding of the day. I lost 3/4 of them over the next week. Im not sure if that had anything to do with it but it sure seemed that way since they were all healthy before that. It could contain something that their systems are not ready for. I hope your gosling gets better. I know niacin does wonders. As for B3 i know its the same some im guessing it would be the same dosage as i said above. Maybe someone else can give more advice.

The niacin was in a gel capsule that opens in the middle. Is that OK? Also, I may have put a little more than 100mg in the gal of water(125mg?). That shouldn't hurt them should it?

Also, I gave the niacin to everyone in the cage. Was that the right thing to do or should I only give it to the one gosling?
