Sick Hen! Help!

Hello! I have a sick hen. I picked her up last week, so she is new to our flock. A few days ago I noticed she was hiding in the coop corner away from the other hens. That evening I went out to check on them and all the hens were roosting and she was outside by herself standing against the fence. I’ve now removed her from the flock and she has been standing upright, waddling like a penguin, pale face, refuses to roost and sleeps standing while leaning against things. She is still eating and drinking. Her poop is runny and yellowish. Her crop feels squishy and hot and when you touch it she always squeals a little bit. I’m not sure what to do, does anyone have any advice?

She's very eggbound or if she's a production breed, some sort of reproductive issue.

For future note, always quarantine new birds far away from your flock for atleast a month.

Thank you. It sure is sad to see her this way, and I’m not sure if she will come out of it or if we will have to euthanize her

Hopefully one of our members I have tagged will help when they see it, but I’m not sure of their timeline, you say her crop is squishy and hot? Is there a bad smell coming from her mouth? I would give calcium citrate straight away which will give her contractions and help if she is egg bound. Sorry I am no help at all but I will be praying for your little girl

I agree with both @Mrs J and @nuthatched . The penguin stance is the classic sign of egg binding. From the look of her, she's been in this state for far too long and is running out of energy to deal with it.

In addition to the calcium citrate given immediately, give her a cup of warm water with one teaspoon of brown (or white) sugar stirred in and a squirt of Poultry Nutri-drench. The calcium will generate the contractions so she can expel the egg and the other stuff will elevate her glucose and nutrients to give her energy.

If you don't have the calcium, this is what to buy.

Hello,
I’m in British Columbia, Canada. No not a battery hen, she’s from a local farm that has quite a few chickens. I only have a total of 12 girls now. I have others from the same farm and they were just fine. I tried the calcium (how often can I give it to her?) and and epsom salt bath and she did seem to relax a bit and is just resting. I also received advice to try electrolytes too, so I gave her that as well. I’m hoping she pulls through and she isn’t too overwhelmed from all the interventions I’m trying to save her life. Thank you everyone for the advice it’s so appreciated!
