So sorry for your loss

You did everything you could for her. She could have had a terminal issue that you could not have prevented or treated. Sometimes we never know what exactly happened, but all we can do is care for them the best that we can.

I'm so sorry... You did not fail her, trust us. You made great efforts to understand and help her from beginning to end. There are just some things we cannot do or understand. :hugs

I am so sorry to hear this. I had hoped she'd pull through in the end. I will tell you from experience, that sometimes there are no answers and no matter what we want it isn't the way it will be. You did everything you could. Casportpony was with you and giving the best advice she can give. There is no fault here, it was her time, for whatever reason.

Thank you. We really appreciate everyones' advice and help.

Thank you for your help. Your knowledge has taught us a lot. I am confident that she lived longer because of your input. We are newbie chicken owners, so your help will benefit many more chickens in the future.

Thanks for replying. She is on crushed oyster shells. She free ranges all day. I do not give a grit supplement. I have sand in our kids' sand box though. Could I mix that in with her food? I will get a pic ASAP.
Playground sand isn’t sufficiently course enough to work as grit for chickens. I would offer grit. Decomposed granite works great for grit as it offers a large variety of sizes. It makes a great substrate for use in the run.
