Sick hen with possible vent gleet

It is great you are able to get her to a vet. I hope the vet can shed some light at is afflicting your poor girl. I believe sometimes a red discoloration in the legs and feet can also happen with organ failure, I think kidneys. Best of luck at the vets. You have certainly tried everything you can to try save Hubble.

Thanks, I suppose her age at 7 or 8 may cause organ failure, but I hope not. Vet is mainly a dog cat vet but she will look at birds. I imagine she will opt for the antibiotics as that is what most doctors of any species often do.

She is hanging in there. Opted for the antibiotics but still not sure what is wrong with her. Mostly white diarrhea but some brownish more normal looking poop as well. Her front is still pretty full of liquid, although maybe less so. Getting her to drink and eat just a little, she has to be handfed as appetite is poor. Gave her another epsom salt soak. These seem to help her. Thank you for asking after her. It is not easy to get her to open beak to allow shringe for antibiotics, she pulls away.

Have you tried working on the crop and massaging it to see if you can get it to clear. Often if there is swelling somewhere else in the body it makes it hard for the digestive system to work properly.

I agree with Wyorp Rock and the good information given. It’s very important to see if you can clear her crop, or the food she does eat won’t be properly utilized and could possibly make things worse. I’m sure someone has suggested coconut oil twice a day with a crop massage after. You can just give her a small chunk if you can get her to take it. I am still praying for her, and for wisdom for you as you care for her.

She seems slightly better. She is pecking at watermelon. I gave her organic crumbles smashed up into yoghurt earlier. Her crop is still full of liquid though. Sometimes she shakes her head to the side slightly like a twitch, which worries me.

Vet had cat antibiotics. I can look up the name. We have been massaging her crop, yet it is still fluid filled even as she seems a little better. She has a bit more energy and pecked at watermelon.
