HELP!! Sick hen

I have been posting on another thread. I’ll try to copy and paste or summarize all the information from the other thread. But I found a few odd skin things that might be of concern. One on foot between toes. And the other appears to be a feather follicle that is covered not allowing the feather through.

Summary from other thread:
She’s approximately 2 years old.
She’s not moving well and just stands and sleeps. Or Stares off But doesn’t move. It’s hot so I moved her into my basement to separate her from the flock. I can see her breathing.
her comb is laying down and it changes color from bright red to deep red. It’s been hot and dry then we had a huge downpour rain fall event and she became ill within 24 hrs.
I can not tell if she has been laying eggs regularly because the flock free ranges when it’s hot.
Her stool is loose and watery.
I have been treating with corid 1tbs/gallon to the whole flock just in case for the past 3 days. She ate a few blue berries and a scrambled egg and some meal worms and flax seeds. I don’t know if she is egg bound.
I don’t know if she has worms or an infection. How could I treat for worms or infection? Where do you get antibiotics?

I'm sorry about your hen.
Let's look at a few things you are concerned about. You first mention the foot, what does the bottom of it look like? It does look like she has Bumblefoot and also some raised scales that could indicate Scaly Leg Mites. Have you looked her over really well for body lice/mites too?

As for the "feather follicle" that looks like her Preening (oil) gland, I don't see any swelling or angry tissue there, so I would leave that alone.

I would feel her abdomen for bloat/swelling or fluid, it won't hurt to feel inside the vent for an egg. She may be having some reproductive problems like Egg Yolk Peritonitis, cancer, Salpingitis, Internal Laying, etc.
Check the crop to make sure it's empty in the morning before she eats/drinks.

As mentioned in the other thread. Dosage for liquid Corid is 2 teaspoons of Corid per 1 gallon of water. Not 1 tablespoon. Corid will only treat Coccidia, it is not a wormer or an antibiotic.

As for worming, getting a fecal float is always a good idea if possible. Safeguard (Fenbendazole) or Valbazen are both good wormers so you can use either of those. Let us know what you get and we'll help you with the dosage.

Antibiotics. It would be good to know what is troubling this sweet girl.

I didn’t see any indication of lice. Not sure if I can see mites.
She did molt in the end of winter around her neck and bum and never really grew back feathers. Could be plucking them I suppose. She’s not a broody hen but she has no feathers on her underside.
I did notice a scratch. It’s not an open wound. But there is a white line next to it. I think blood poisoning when I see white line but I don’t know much about birds to tell you the truth.

Scales aren’t raised. They are smoothly laying down.

If it is mites how do I treat for that?

Not too clear what bumble foot is but I looked at the bottom of her foot and it appears that there was some mud that was packed in there. I pulled it out with some hemostats and took some pictures. I cleaned up the foot with an alcohol wipe after.

She is breathing heavily but her comb is not so purple any more. She did leave the coop with her sisters today and all the way to the horse barn where they like to hang out.

I am aware the corid is not an antibiotic or wormer. It’s what I had on hand and thought I’d try it. Didn’t know I was only giving half the dose. Should I start over or just scrap that idea?

Can I buy the wormer from tractor supply?
Edit: I don’t remember buying it but I found wazine 17 in my possession. Says it for chickens.

I don’t feel any fluid or anything weird in her abdomen.

It feels like her crop is emptying normal.

I have not checked her vent yet.

Careful! One tablespoon per gallon is TOO MUCH, you need to cut back, not give more. A tablespoon is the same as three teaspoons. You only need to give TWO teaspoons.

Edit: And use real cooking measuring spoons, not the spoons you eat with, for accuracy.

In both threads You keep writing TBS when giving the dosage of Corid. Are you using TABLESPOON (tbs) really should be (tbsp) or Teaspoon (tsp) ? Dosage is 2 teaspoon liquid Corid per gallon of water.
Corid will not hurt her, so if you started it, then you might as well finish a 5 day course.

You would be able to see mites and lice on the body with your eyes - mites you need to look at night, but lice you should see crawling. For the Scaly Leg Mites (totally different than body mites and no you can't see those), raised scales is usually an indication of those. You can smother them with a good coating of vaseline applied every few days.

Glad you were able to get the poop ball out from between the folds of the foot, something like that can fester and make the swelling look a bit worse. I would just check the foot every few days to see that it's going back to normal.

You can find Safeguard (Fenbendazole) at Tractor Supply. Valbazen, I order that online.

Oh dang. Didn’t catch that. Ty. I suppose I’ll just scratch that, yes I was giving 1 tablespoon per gallon. They probably had enough in the last 3 days anyway. They have been drinking out of other water sources too.

That bare section on her breast - was there any pus, a scab or does she have a bad odor?
Does she roost at night?
I would rinse that well with betadine or chlorhexidine (hibiclens), dry it well, then apply vetericyn or triple antibiotic ointment .
Keep her on clean dry bedding. Looks like that is either injury or could be a breast blister that came open.

If you have vet care, that would be best.

I think you need to keep them on the Corid for the whole five days, and also they should not have access to any other water besides the Corid water. No worries, we'll get you squared away!
