Sick hen

I have lost 2 hens in the last 3 weeks, the first stop eating and drinking, won’t roost and in a day or two they are dead. I have 6 left and they all act fine. What could be the problem. They are on purina hen layer and I give the a little scratch. They will be 3 in April.

The best way to find out what killed your chickens is to have your state vet do a necropsy on the body if you lose another. There are 4 locations in TX for the state vet lab, and you would need to keep the body refrigerated, not frozen. Here is who to contact:

do they get enough grit? it may be a crop issue but what the others suggested is probably best
