Sick hen

Dish soap and water is a good lubricant for emergencies. Plus the Saran wrap is a good suggestion. Place broken tablet on back of tongue and she will swallow it.

You can use just your fingers without glove, just wash really well, gloves were not always around.

I like this suggestion better than olive oil.

How old is she? Did the slim come from vent? Have you checked her for being egg bound? Have you checked for impact or sour crop? Any indication of vent gleet? Is she eating/drinking? Have you introduced any new birds?

To check for egg binding, put on gloves w lubricant insert finger see if you can feel an egg or broken shell. If yes, give her a calcium or tums tablet or liquid calcium, keep her quiet/calm and in a dark area. I would not recommend giving her a bath in her condition, too frail and bathing may push her over the edge.

To check for crop issues, check her crop at night(after eating all day)should be full, check in morning(before eating)should be empty. To check for sour crop, crop may feel squishy and there might be a foul smell coming from mouth.

Here is a link for vent gleet, just in case this is what you are seeing.

Update with required information.

I didn't feel an egg inside or any broken pieces so what should I do now?

Go to post #6 Dawg53 explains how to do a flush with vinegar and water in case an egg did break inside.

since I can't feel anything I will put her in the bath tub and use the vinegar and water and flush her out...I sure hope this works so worried about her she is not eating at all. she is drinking though. I put the tums broken up in her mouth. so I will flush her out now and keep her in the house and watch her. I have antibiotics durimicen. not spelled right. please let me know if I should give her any antibiotics..Thanks for all the info and help.

Use white vinegar. Do you have a turkey baster. Bathing her won't flush her out if thats what you mean. Antibiotics wouldn't hurt.

Egg binding may not even be the issue, have you checked for any crop issues? If she does not start to eat,you might want to consider tube feeding, birds can only go so long without food before their body starts to shut down. Did you look at link for vent gleet? Vent gleet can be either bacterial or fungal. Have you opened up her beak to check for anything unusual in mouth?
