Hi, Im new to the group. Also new to having chickens. We have had 8 hens for a week. I noticed blood in their poop yesterday and today got some corid and the lady at southern states told me to get some medicated starter fed. We were feeding organic laying pellets. She said because of the blood we needed the starter thats medicated. So is it ok to do the corid and the fed? The lady also told me to give probiotics, 1 pack in water for 3 days. Do I need to do that to?

Welcome to BYC. How old are your chicks? Corid is safe to treat for coccidiosis, but usually they don't tend to get it until they are a few weeks old. By all means, if you are seeing blood, it won't hurt to treat. Sometimes they may normally have a little orange-red intestinal shed, but it pays to be safe. It is safe to use both Corid and the medicated feed at the same time. Probiotics are very good to use, especially right after you finish the Corid. The Corid water should be their only source of water. Dosage is 1 1/2 tsp of the Corid powder or 2tsp of the liquid per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Plain yogurt with cultures mixed in with the feed or some chopped egg is a good source of probiotics.

Someone told me today to give 1oz (2tbsp) of the corid per gallon of water. But I sign up on this website and wanted to ask others. So u say 2tsp per gallon. I will give fresh corid/water tomorrow. I dont want to over dose them .

Yep 10 ml or 2 tsp is the correct corid dosage. Lesser amounts can be used as a preventative, but this is the dose for an active infection.

Ok. Thats what I will put in their water tomorrow. Thank you. Yesterday is when I seen blood. Today I didnt see any. But wanted to treat them since I seen it yesterday.
