I would hang a few strings of cans together all over the door so if they try to enter at night they make a racket. The dogs will hear that. It should help till the camra gets set up. Best of luck.

Maybe you can borrow a baby moniter to put in the coop. Set it up so that something clatters (like the can idea) when the door opens. That would be harder to miss than someone sneaking quietly.

hmmm....now theres two good idea's , ya , i might just do that! i would put a baby moniter at it , but the person seems to be very observant and careful , so would probably turn it off , and remove it. But the cans , ya , once its not windy , it gets extremely windy this time of year up in west ireland

Were the doors just bolted or padlocked? bolts are easy to undo but padlocks will need a bit of work and make noise something a burglar doesn't want to do, other options include getting a security light that works via movement, baby monitor in the coop is a very good idea as well as signs that say cctv monitoring, it does sound like this person knew you had rare birds though since they were all targeted, have you told anyone locally about your birds? sorry for the one that got killed

it seems strange the dogs did not react, but if it happens again and you get there in time I would just let the dogs at them.

I would put some rocks from the driveway in the cans to make them heavy enough not to blow in the wind to easy.
