I am sooo sorry! It always seems to hurt more when we put so much time into trying to help them. I'm glad you'll be able to have a necropsy done. The lab up here want's a 'fresh dead' bird (as in kill right before sending) and they are 4 hours away.

Thanks. I may try to leave work early to avoid the LSU Saturday game traffic. I think they gave a game on yesterday. I won't get home until about 10:00 PM tonight but that's ok. I"m anxious to get the results. I"m glad that they are only 1 hour away. And the cost is ok as well. That's how much we pet owners pay for meds anyway.

Frosty, thanks for all of your help through this ordeal.

I think that getting necropsy done will probably help many people in the future.

Our labs will take them live or dead and they didn't complain when I sent two chicken hens UPS 2nd day.

That's what I'm hoping - that it will help others. LSU Vet School is an excellent school and I am so glad they are letting me bring her and that they have after hours drop-off. Our State Vets were SO helpful in directing me on what to do.

As soon as I get the results, I will post word for word if it's not too much to type. Any anyone wanting a copy of the results, just let me know and in box me your address and I will send you a copy of the necropsy results so that you can have on file in the event you need it to refer to if you have a pea emergency or death.

I will ask them to give me specific details on how to deal with whatever the illness is to include meds, treatment, diet, etc. I hope they will give me this info and I will let everyone know.

The might be able to send you a copy of the report in email as a "pdf". If they can, I could convert it to a picture format that you could then post instead of typing the whole thing.

There is also one other thing that I thought about that I know that I will do differently. I will not let my peas touch ground for at least 5 months or until they have built up their immune system. That's what I did for my white pea and he is fine. I do the same thing for my poults and I have never had a problem. This is the first time I have had this kind of illness. So, I"m thinking if the pea would have still been in my garage brooder or off the ground, this may not have happened. But I can't keep beating myself over what I should have done. What's done is done. Now I have to be proactive and learn from this tragedy.

At what age do you all let your peas chicks out with the other animals? How long is it before they touch ground?

Good idea. I keep forgetting about up-to-date technology. :/ When I drop my pea off today, I'll ask about the results. I"m sure you are right. I"ll let you know. Thanks for mentioning that. :thumbsup
