Sick Pea Chick Died - Going to Vet School For Necropsy - Will Post Results

I received the final report. It was emailed to me. The only words I understand are "the", "has, "to" "is" and "a". All other words are "medical".

I really need to let you all see this so someone can break it down for ALL of us. Also, he listed some suggestions that I think everyone needs to read.
casportpony, let me know if I can scan and email this to you so you can post the final report.
ETA: Final Report copied and pasted in next post.
Go ahead and send me an email and we'll see what we can do for you.

You crazy girl! You typed that in by hand? Seriously though, that report looks like one of mine, right down to the secondary infections. Thanks for typing all of that, but feel free to email me the copy if you want.

Now the road to recovery.

Just wanted to update everyone. The avian vet that sees my turkey said that he would be more than happy to give me metranodizole. He asked what are the weights of all of the peas. I asked why. He said because this med must be administered according to weight. I was like, "REALLY"? He said yes. So for those of you that administer this drug, please be certain of the weight of your pea and know how much of the drug to administer. He said once I give him the weights, the drug has to be compounded for each individual pea by individual weight. The vet's office has their own pharmacist that they work with for compounding animal drugs. So, I have to give him the weight of the adult peas but at the same time, the younger peas will grow up and their weight will increase, so I will have to create a chart, based on the info that the avian vet gives me, so that I will know how much of the metranodizole to administer if I have to give in the future.

That is just one of the reasons that I always suggest that people weigh their animals. Some turkey people will say to give two fish-zole tabs, but that's 500mg and way too much for even the largest adult pea. I've been told by vets that the safe dose is 30mg-60mg per kilogram. I've been giving my chicks 30mg/kg. The drug does not have to be compounded for each different pea, but is does have to be compounded for the smaller ones (50 grams to 1000 grams). I happen to have it in the 50mg/ml form. So a 1000 gram chick, like yours, would have got .6ccs a day for five days and a 100 gram chick would get .06ccs. Then you need to recalculate and adjust their dosage as they gain or lose weight. Make sense? If you're interested, the chart that I have automatically calculates doses and I can get you a copy with instructions if you want. All I would need from you/your vet is his recommendation on mg/kg and the strength or your medication in mg/ml. Here is that chart that I posted earlier. The pink columns are the different medicines that I might use and the numbers are calculated by the listed weight of each bird.
