Sick Pea Chick Died - Going to Vet School For Necropsy - Will Post Results

EXACTLY!!! If I had an outbreak, I would be out of luck in trying to do what I need to do to stop the outbreak or get animals in for treatment and/or testing because I am not getting any help. This really scares me. I hope that everyone PLEASE stocks your PEA meds quick and in a hurry and read and study and read and study some more on any and all PEA illnesses, sicknesses, etc. We have to be armed and ready.

Pea are very hard to diagnose, they are at deaths door most of the time before you realize something is wrong, like someone posted once they are good at hiding their illness, it is a survivor thing, animals that appear weak are the first to be taken by a predator or picked on by the rest of the flock.

to many meds giving trying to heal your birds when you do not now what is wrong is bad because they can cause other problems so it is important to know what has killed them , especial if you are having more than one loss in a short period of time.

I've been thinking about calling our lab and asking them what the top five causes of death are in the peafowl that they necropsy. Not sure how useful it would be, but I'd still like to know.

I don't even have any peas.....I'm a chicken girl, but I want to know what happened too after reading this thread. *sigh* :(

I think that is a great idea. It would be VERY useful. At least you and the rest of us would know. I would like to know as well. When you find out, please post here. We can never have too much information. It's good to learn what we can. I say go for it. :thumbsup

so glad you finally got an answer! Now just to move forward.

I just wormed mine for the first time & my youngest are 3 months.

Like your idea Zazouse - if you follow up on it do post the results; it would be interesting to know.

I was also going to ask him the same for turkeys and chickens. The "top five list" won't be official, it'll just be what he tells me over the phone or in email. It should be interesting...
