Sick peachick ***GRAPHIC PIC***

I wonder how they can catch coccidiosis as they are fed with medicated chck starter

From yesterday I am giving both - solution of sulfadimethoxine and flagyl suppository (this is what we have in our area). Today it stoped to eat and drink ... Is it OK to give him both meds....The black (dark brown) spots on the first pic are part of the poo.

The parents could be carries and show no signs and may have never been sick, Coccidiosis is in the ground and could have been there for hundreds of years this is what I have heard anyhow.

Did you have the Peachicks with chicken chicks at anytime??? if so I would treat for blackhead just because you feed them med feed don't mean they will not get sick.

. I keep forgetting that name.

We get ours from the Vet, It's nice to go to a Vet tell them the Meds you need and they sell them to you (but you have to know the Med name) because most Vets don't treat birds.

That is where most of the new Peafowl people get in trouble at: going to the Vet and getting stuff that don't work because they don't know the names.

I know that is what is in it, just forget the M word... I remember Fish Zole easier.

Thank you again for the help!!!! The peachck afrer I put on both meds still is not eating or drinking...My peachicks (they are different age) came from shipping eggs. They were incubated with some chickens and were together for first few weeks.

After reading here that this is not good I took out the chickens. Do I need to treat all now for black head even they look healthy? Thank you.

It wouldn't hurt to treat them one time and see what happens (treat there water and when water is gone give them fresh water) and enjoy your birds.

You may have to get a small syringe with the med in it (without the needle) and slide it down the side of the chicks throat just pass the windpipe and give it the meds that away. Sounds hard but it is not when you open his mouth you can see the windpipe in the middle so slide the syringe to one side and slide it pass the windpipe, easy.

Good Luck.

Metronidazole is a generic for Flagyl. But you can get metronidazole at your local vet.It is very cheap,as I recall it was 8.00 for 15 tablets. They only problem is,is the vet will want you to bring your bird in,so he can get an office visit fee.If you can talk good you can maybe talk him intowaiving the visit.I told my vet that these are gamebirds, which they are(pheasants) and they are just to flighty and it will stress them out.Plus I read up on it on line and he said I'll go get them for you,as it is not a drug that could do anything to a person.
In N.H.,Tony.

You may need to feed him some of the medicated water with a syringe minus the needle. I use a 3 cc. Also drop some feed in its mouth and message its throat and wash it down with the medicated water. A lot of the time what happens is they get to feeling so bad they don't eat or drink.
