i dont know how much he weigh. his poop is white. i stop giving him baytril. it was no good. i didnt see improvement. people have told me to give him TIGENT for 5 days im going to se if that works. he is eating but not alot.

Hello FRANCO2,
what you wrote are typical symptoms for Coccidian. I don’t know how long it is going now like this, but you have to give him Baycox. You have to put it as written into the drinking water. But you have to give him first the drinking water oral too, because he not in a good condition and will not take enough by himself.
If the damages in his bowel are already to big he will not recover. Do it immediately or you will lose him.

In my experience with peafowl and chickens, white poop means that they are not drinking. However, white poop is also one of the symptoms of Pullorum, which I believe is a problem in Mexico. Either way, if he does not drink, soon, he will die. Do any of your friends know how to tube feed?

If it was cocci wouldnt he have yellow droppings or even blood sometimes in the stool Reinhold? My first thought was and has been severe gapeworm problems. Maybe the ivermectin dose wasnt enough? You have to moniter the birds weight daily to see if needs the forced feeding. Hes eating so thats encouraging. I pray he makes it Franco. Either way keep us updated. These are the type threads people return to for help

I have never seen white poop in a bird with coccidiosis, just the yellow and yellow with blood, but always very smelly.

The few birds that I have seen with white poop were very dehydrated. Once rehydrated, the poop color returned to normal.

Greens are very sensitive against coccidian and I had already several times problems with it and the poop was at the beginning always mainly white. This is at the beginning, if it is coming to the end when you will see already blood inside then the blood can also change the color to more yellow, but then it is too late. You will not be able to recover the bird because the inside damages are already too big.
If the poop is more yellow from the beginning then it is black head (histomoniasis). Because black head can cause a liver inflammation, In this case the poop is more mucous too.

I'm not trying to say that you're wrong, just want to share my own personal experiences.

Maybe it's different in greens, but six 3-4 month old IB peas at the feed store had coccidiosis and their poop was never white, it was a foamy Dijon mustard yellow and didn't have any blood. The feed store has a huge coccidiosis problem in their chickens and I have seen literally thousands of their chicks with it, but it's never white. Some have blood, some don't and about 75% die due to lack of treatment and unsanitary conditions.

This is at the beginning, if it is coming to the end when you will see already blood inside then the blood can also change the color to more yellow, but then it is too late. You will not be able to recover the bird because the inside damages are already too big.
Of the six peas from the feed store, three died, three lived even though they were_not_treated for coccidiosis. The three that died were necropsied at the UC Davis Lab and were positive for coccidiosis, negative for histomonisis.

If the poop is more yellow from the beginning then it is black head (histomoniasis). Because black head can cause a liver inflammation, In this case the poop is more mucous too.
This has not been my experience. In fact, only one has had sulfur yellow poop, others had sort of normal poop with blood and one had mustard yellow poop. The one with the sulfur yellow poop, a turkey poult, died, but the others survived. All were treated with metonidazole (Flagyl) 30mg/kg once a day by mouth for five days and fenbendazole (Safeguard for Goats/Cattle 100mg/ml) 50mg/kg by mouth and again in ten days.
What's my point?
  • Coccidiosis can_be_treated even when there is blood. Will all live? Probably not.
  • Not all coccidiosis has blood and can be just as deadly as coccidiosis with blood in poop.
  • Histomoniasis doesn't always start off yellow.
  • Histomoniasis can look like coccidiosis.
  • White poop could mean many things.

All but the last one are abnormal.

I feel Im not much help here.I didnt know about the greens being more sensitive to cocci Pfaunfreund. Thats interesting. I assumed it would be the same in getting cocci as say an IB. I thought it was gapeworm in Franco's bird had because of his first post with the bird gasping. I assume you think its cocci now because of the white droppings. I have had some white droppings in my two green peacocks and pheasants and ducks as well for years. I have always assumed this as normal poop. I dont know wether Franco's bird has cocci or gapeworms or both .Or something entirely diffferent even. I heard about yellow mucous poop being blackhead more than likely as well. If Im going off symptoms I would think yellow poop is the first sign the bird has blackhead. Gasping first I would think the first sign bird has gapeworm. What would you consider the first sign of cocci exactly however ?White poop? Im blessed I have not had to deal with any of these ailments. It sound like you have had cocci alot so maybe Franco better use Baycox and/or Tigent.
Im always trying to learn more about ailments and which one it is is myself.

I just gave my best guess to Franco. I also didnt know francos bird was a green. Wish a bird vet could help Franco. Maybe the Tigent cured the problem.Hope so!
