Yeah, there is some debate about what exactly ERE is, they've done a study in Europe and ruled out a virus, general consensus is its a bacteria, we're just not sure how its transmitted or by what (or what bacteria exactly it is) Other than its airborne, highly contagious and better than 50% fatal. I keep thinking why is ARBA not doing some sort of study since it is now affecting a LOT of breeders here.
Glad the Coccidia came back neg, that would have been much simpler to treat than this bug is tho.
At least you don't have that to worry about too, since they seem to take the chance to multiply.
The key does seem to be to get their gut moving and keep them hydrated so their immune system can overcome it. What antibiotics did you get? Did they run a test to see what bacteria it was exactly? If we knew what to test for we could figure out what this ERE is and what to treat it with, sure wish they had done a follow up study over in Europe once they ruled out a virus.
Critical Care is a great product, I have it on hand too. I store mine in the freezer so it will stay fresh for the next time I need it.
I'd feed the orphans more often than twice a day, the milk replacements have way less of what they need then rabbit milk does. Its better to feed them more often than to overfeed them at one sitting.
Normally you would foster if the Mom died, but you have to consider that if the Mom died due to Pasturella or Staph (both of which can present as a mastitis infection) or whatever this ERE bug thing is, you'll infect the foster doe and her litter. But I'm a germaphobe! ;p
I'm glad your doe is starting to do better!
