Sick rooster......please help: Pic's added

Yeah, that's a murphy's law kind of thing.

I sure hope he's okay. He's a very pretty boy!

Off topic, but: Did you get the swingset coop pics I e-mailed you?

I think it looks like that because I had the camara zoomed out. His eyes appear to be fine I checked those really good last night and his droppings look like they suppose to.

Thanks. Yes I got those pics. Thankyou for sending them to me. It looks awesome. MY kids are not done with there's yet but just as soon as they are it is being converted.

Ok I have been searching BYC for any clues. Could it be a vitamin def? The pen I have them in is completly shaded. Do they need more sunlight? I have him on Vitamins and eletrolytes and I have started the terramycin.

I have checked on the girls this morning and they all seem to be doing fine. I am gonna put vitamins and electrolytes in there water just to be on the safe side. Do I need to start them on terramycin also?

HELP!!!

Is he eating layer feed?
I've always wondered how roosters do with all that extra calcium in the food.

Could he have eaten a bad bug or been bitten by something?

I feel like we need more info. Have you heard any sneezing/coughing? You said he's eating well, correct?

I've got 2 that I'm treating now for Air Sac Disease, and they were doing the exact same thing; standing there, shut their eyes, head goes down, down, down, until it touches the ground or the feed dish or whatever's in front of them. But, they are also sneezing, and I think it typically strikes younger birds.

What feed is he on? How long has he been like this? Can you give information on how he is (was) housed?

What sort of vitamins do you have him on? I highly recommend Avia Charge 2000; it's got sea kelp, and all sorts of vitamins as well as minerals.

Could be a couple things...the drooping neck is a sign of paralysis initiating. 4 of the most common causes...

1 - Marek's - this is picked up in your soil (not necessarily from new birds)
2 - Botulism - could he have gotten into something moldy or wet bedding?
3 - Vitamin deficiency - supplements should show some pretty quick improvements.
4 - Toxin

You do not need antibiotics at this time. For Marek's, there is no cure so you will have to let it play out and see what happens. He would next go down on his legs.

For botulism and toxins, he won't make it more than a day or two for serious cases. He would need a molasses flush for botulism immediately if you suspect. Otherwise, he'll eventually lay over on his side and not get up again - full paralysis to respiratory distress to death.

Don't mean to scare you and I hope it is only the vitamins he is missing. Please keep all of these in mind and try to figure out which one it could be.

Not to thread- jack - but do you know if cats can get botulism? We just had a cat die about 2 weeks ago that exhibited the part about eventually developing paralyisis and then died. The vet thought he either ingested some poison (nothing around here to poison him) or he had a head injury.

I would say yes, that cats probably can get botulism. People can as well.

There is no sneezing or coughing. He has been housed in an outside incloser with a dirt floor. It use to house my dogs and goats but I moved them. Nothing has been in there for over a month now. He is on chicker starter and laying mesh combined. No where around here sales food for rooster's. They do sale turkey feed though. Yesterday morning when I made my morning rounds he was fine. Yesterday afternoon when I went back out to check on everyone he was acting like this.
I got the vitamins and electrolytes from TSC. I went back out there last night after I found him and looked around. I did not see anything. There was a couple of spider's in the coop, so I took care of them. I have looked this rooster over and I have not been able to find any marks on him at all. except for 1 scratch on his wattle.

What is Air sack disease? and what do you do to treat it?

Jody, How would I know if it is mereks? The only toxin he could have got was "maybe" goat poop.
