Hey everyone I have a sick rooster and someone told me it could be mareks which is really scary. I have spent the day researching and have reached out to my vet but no reply yet. Can anyone shine some light.
background: I came home oct 27 and my rooster was somehow out of my fenced area. It’s a 4 foot fence but not covered. The next day his one wing was hanging down so I assumed he got injured and after watching many videos attempted to help him by bandaging his wing and giving him electrolytes for the stress. Fast forward to a few days ago and all of a sudden he can’t stand very well so I brought him inside. Once again felt for anything broken and checked his foot for bumble foot as it seemed to be bothering him. I bathed him in Epsom salts and kept him separate for the whole weekend. unfortunately he has shown no improvement. He eats and drinks but can’t walk and a few times today we have found him on his side.

please help!! Could he have mareks? What other possibilities are there. I just need some advice while I wait on the vet as I’ve been waiting all day and my heart is so heavy for my tiny flock.

he is eating and drinking and his poop looks good. He is also crowing still.

I feed him laying rations with a small amount of wheat mixed in. He gets vegetable scraps from the house too and since he has started acting so funny I’ve also given him plain yogurt.
I tried electrolytes but I will find some vitamins.

How old is he?
He may be needing more protein if you are mixing wheat with layer feed and he's getting extras too.
Try him out on just layer feed or get a small bag of chick starter and feed that. If that's not possible, give him egg, fish or meat several times a week.

He will be a year next month. I have chick started cause I have some little ones now so I will start feeding him that. I can also easily add eggs to his diet. Thanks for the suggestions I appreciate it.

You should never feed a young rooster layer feed it has too much calcium. Feed your flock Flock Raiser or similar feed and give e them oyster shell for the hens calcium. A little layer feed won't hurt him but not exclusively unless he's older than 16 weeks..if you've been feeding g him layer since a chick I don't know if that is his problem but it could contribute. You can try Hypericum Perfor atum. Some people have very good luck with it. You get it at the health food store and dissolve it in distilled water..then dropper a few dropson his tongue s couple times a day. I haven't used it for years but I have seen it work. It just depends though. There's a lot of posts on here about people's experience with it. It's worth a shot although doesn't always work.It is a derivative of St John's Wort.
