I live in Alabama. I give them Dumor feed pellets, scratch and fresh fruits and vegetables (varied mix) I just throw it all on the ground for them to eat. I think I will do a fecal float at the vet. My biggest concern though at the moment is his labored breathing. Thanks!!!

I'd first cut out all but the chicken ration....fruits especially might be the cause of the loose poops.

A fecal test will only tell you if there are parasites in the droppings, not a respiratory disease. We used to be able to buy tetracycline over the counter, but since 2017, you can’t. The Tylan 50 is easy enough to find sometimes, along with syringes and needles to withdraw it from the vial. A vet can give you Tylan Powder for the water if you can find one locally that treats chickens. If you have time for shipping, the Baytril or doxycycline is very food.

Okay great thanks. I will study those options tomorrow and then pick one. Just to check is there any harm in using these "drugs" so to speak if the rooster does not have an illness?

I don’t like to use antibiotics without a good cause. Sometimes it is good to have a decent one onhand if you need it, since most of the better ones are only available online. As long as dosage is followed, I don’t know that one would harm him.

Could you please provide a link to the tylan 50 powder? I see the vial liquid on tractor supply but would prefer the powder if possible. How do you even give administer the liquid? Pour on food? Also do you think this would be better than tetra-bac 324? Thank you so much

You will need to contact you vet and get a prescriptions for the Tylan powder.

Okay thank you. I did and they said they are no longer legally able to supply or is any other very to poultry as it is seen as a meat animal for human consumption not a pet if I use the liquid tylan can I just put in water? Or food? Thanks

No you can't put injectable Tylan50 in the food or water. You can give it orally (direct dose) though.

Okay I was afraid of that as he won't let me do that. I'll have to brainstorm. Do you have any experience with tetra bac 324?
