Sick Sebbie.

Any news on your sick goose?
He is not doing any better but at least he is not doing any worse, he doesn't seem to be going downhill, just staying as he is. I am not happy for him, I think he would be much happier outside but I can't put him out like this.

He can stand on his right foot but he is unsteady and can't do it for long. The right foot/leg is the one he had problems with first but we couldn't find a reason for bumble foot, no pus, no core, no opening to a wound after we got the black callous off.

Have you tried putting him in warm bathes where it take pressure off his legs and can also help to stimulate him using his legs [water therapy]and you know the tetracycline and Aureomycin can only be given for 7-8 days? then has to be stopped. I'd start him on the PND right away and if you can give it by mouth it will get into his system alot quicker using a syringe with out a needle. Since he had the blk scab but nothing under it lets just assume this is bumble that has gone systemic and with the antibiotics he has been treated for it. Now give him the PND it is supportive care. You dif don't want to over do on the antibiotics. also if he's eating good you might want to pick up a live stock probiotic and add to his feed after being on antibiotics they need to be able to replenish the good flora in their intestinal tract. Seeing a little progress is better than none so I hope now you'll begin to see baby steps daily, but getting him into a nice warm bath so he can begin to build strength in his legs is very important, just never leave him un attended when he is in there. Keep us updated on how is doing and I hope for complete healing. Your right and keeping him in till he can get around he wouldn't do well at all outside right now.
Of course all we can do is give supportive info so if at all possible a vet would be the best course of action.

Yes, he gets baths but not daily as it really seems to upset him to be lifted up. We do try to get him in at least once a day every other day. We do put warm water and when it cools, if he is not ready to get out, we add more warm water. He does use his right foot in the water but he still stretches his left out behind him, he doesn't seem to try to use it, as if it hurts and hurts badly. My husband is the one who watches over him the most so, no, I didn't know that they should only be give for 7-8 days. We will get the PND as soon as we can and yes, we are diabetics so have syringes that the needles can be removed.

Any brand of livestock probiotic?

We can tell when he wants out because he goes to the side of the tub and lunges his head and neck like he is trying to slide out over the edge. He can't but we know what he wants.

Most of the time feed stores maybe just carry one type of probiotic but if they have more ask which they think is the best. I bought mine online so if you can't find any let me know and I'll give you the brand but it was Jeffers I ordered from. Also you can use human till you can get some. Wither the antibiotics they have a course you take them in so after he is finished with these I'd give him at least a 2 week rest to give his body a chance to recover from them Antibiotics although good also mess up other things in the body by killing off good bacteria, but after 2 weeks maybe start another round but lets hope you'll just continue to see progress if even just a little each day. Remember never shoot any liquid down their throats just give a small amount of PND into his mouth let him swallow then more till it's gone. you don't want anything going into his air sac to cause pneumonia.

Ok, no squirting. That means a 2 person job. Jake doesn't like to be held or touched.
Mine don't either it's always a 2 person job, plus after you give him some in his bill put in his drinking water too. But I's at least give it to him start for a couple 3 days straight and see if you notice any change.

Sorry, I lost this thread.

He is a bit better, he can stand on the foot that went bad first, for a little bit. He left the bathroom a few days ago but that was the only initiative he has taken and when we put him back in there after a bath, he has stayed again.

He seems clear headed and his eyes are bright but he just doesn't seem to be getting better very fast. The girl who gave them to me suggested putting vinegar in his water. At this late point, I don't know what that will do but I am willing to try anything.

Apple Cider vinegar is like a tonic to our flock and also to us. If your going to try ACV get the one with mother in it Braggs has a good one. 1-2 tab to 1 gallon of water.
How is he using his legs in the bath? I wish I knew what else you could try does he seem depressed? maybe bringing another one in for a visit would motivate him to try and walk.

I didn't think it would matter that much, we will start immediately with the ACV. We have Braggs. He uses the right leg more than the left in the water but he is using it more. This is such a slow process that it has me worried. I think, I don't know for sure but I think that a chicken at this point would either be better or have died.

No, he doesn't seem depressed but if I were another Sebbie, I might think so. LOL Being human, he seems ok to me. He doesn't seem to miss being with the others. He can hear them through the bathroom window and he doesn't call to them. I haven't even seen him look up toward the window when he hears them. I have been wondering about taking him outside to see if he wants to be out there. I don't think he could stay out there like this but at least I would know he wants to be outside. I do not think whatever is wrong with him is contagious, we have not been conscientious about making sure we wash our hands or changing our shoes or clothes after handling him.

It might be easier to bring one of the girls in to visit with him than to take him outside to them. Plus, there is one gander out there that used to beat the snot out of him. I had to tie that guy up to keep him off Jake. Now, we have 2 Chinese geese and one of them has taken alpha of the flock. I don't know if the other one would still try to beat Jake up but we can corner a girl tonight and bring her in for a little while.
