Sick turkey. Need help.

You can buy Tylan at most well stocked feed stores or TSC. It is Marketed for cattle. You can give the injection in either the breast or fatty part of thigh, pending on the size of the bird about 1/2 cc - 1cc. You can also put a few drops of Tylan in each nostrial to help flush it out...I don't know how common it is but have seen it many times, it can start out like a sinus infection but can turn into a bad infection in the lungs if left untreated for long.
Hope they heal fast for you......

Since you have access to a vet, definitely call. If worse comes to worst get a necroscopy done. There are many diseases that exhibit these symptoms (some bacterial/some not), it would be good to know for sure. Sorry you're having these troubles.

No the turkey that is wheezing does not exhibit any of the swelling or eye symptoms. The one in the pictures with the swelling is not wheezing.

I went to my local feed store and they have Tylan for cattle. It seems to that it is too strong a dose. If I get the cattle tylan does anyone know the dosage for turkeys? Or a website or link that might have to concentrations/amounts to give?

I really appreciate all the help.

I don't think it matters. Usually they carry 50/200 injectable. Dosage (IM) is still 35mg/kg. The 200 will just require a smaller amount. I think the 50 works out to about 1.5cc per 4lb.

This is just off the top of my head, though (posting and running...).

Anyone with a better conversion chime in.

Would you be able to butcher them with that condition, or could it cause a problem in the person that eats the bird?

I don't think butchering a sick turkey for human consumption is a good idea. I was thinking of just culling the two if I couldn't get medication.

Here's the update: Sunday I was going to the farm store to try and find tylan. They were closed when I got there. A few hours later and I still hadn't found any. All the stores in the area told me to go to the farm store-so I decided to wait until Monday (yesterday) morning when they opened.

I go to check on the turkeys in the morning and the one who was wheezing is dead. My other one in the pictures is still alive so back to the store I go. There is no tylan, but I did find LA-200. I immediately dose the sick bird. When I checked on him later in the day the swelling had gone down and he's looking a little better! This morning he looks even better (although he still looks sick). Thankfully the LA-200 seems to be working. I also started the other birds on a powder form added to their water. I'm crossing my fingers I'll come away from this only 1 bird short.

I have a similar problem with my turkeys and was wondering if someone could answer a few questions. I have 10 turkeys that are 12 weeks old. About a month ago, some of them started"sneezing" although my husband says they are Toms "thumping", but I say otherwise. Anyway, 1 by 1, they are becoming listless and frail looking. They also seem much smaller than the others. 1 has already died and now I have 4 more that are sneezing. 1 is very small (you could easlily pick it out of the flock) and weak. They seem to be struggling with breathing (always have their mouths open - & it's cool out) and you can see their bodies puffing up and down breathing. I read alot on this forum about giving them injections of meds, but we were raising them for meat. I don't think we should give them meds if we are eating them. We don't plan to slaughter until probably March, so will the medicine be out of their bodies by then or shouldn't we do it at all? Should we try anything else? We removed the sick birds the other day and put them in a separate coop, but they may have already affected the others. What is this and what should I do? Can the sick ones be saved? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If left untreated they will most likely die anyway, either way eating them won't be an option. If you medicate them, they get over it and a few months down the line you butcher them, it should be out of their system,IMO.
I would give the LA 200 or Tylan if you do not have access to Baytril. Hope it gets better...

Thanks for your answers. I'll try the medications you suggested. Should I medicate all of them to ward this off or just the sick ones for now. 2 of them are not too bad yet, so maybe it will help them.
