I forgot to mention one very important thing: Use an elastic wrap (vet wrap in case you have it) and don't wrap too tight, as this might inhibit proper blood circulation leading to necrosis. And observe her wrapped foot and toe closely for any signs of it. Control the broken toe temperature daily.

Ok. She didn't eat, so we washed her bottom again to make sure there's no poop on the healing part. Then we gave her the pill in two halves, generously coated with coconut oil, so whether it's an egg or constipation, we are addressing either. She's not happy with us, which I take as a good sign, and she's now put herself in the little nesting box I set inside the cage for her. Her wounds seem to be healing nicely, no pus or noticeable swelling. Gave her another spray after washing and I think I'll leave her alone for the night. She has fresh food, oyster shells and water. Phew! It's like worrying about a sick child!

I will definitely keep her inside until she is fully healed. We were thinking of adding some chicks in spring, so I might try to incorporate her with them if she survives this. She has always been smaller than the rest so if I could figure out her breed maybe I could get more of the same. She seems to be the only one of her kind. I also think we may have left the light on in the coop and that could have added to everyone's stress. Not sure, but love this little fighter and hate to see this happen. Thanks for your help!

Ugh. So the injuries seem to be healing but she is stopped up with something. It looks like her poop is all clogged and hardened but she's such a mess down there it's hard to tell what I'm looking at. I've been giving her the calcium +D3 once daily with some coconut oil (just a little) and today she really didn't eat at all. She keeps making little bock bock sounds and I feel like she's trying to do something but can't. Attaching graphic pic of her bottom which we just soaked in warm water for a bit and wiped off best we could (without scraping her healing skin) Not sure what to do and I'm starting to panic...(PS I haven't gotten to the drug store because there were tornadoes yesterday we will work on that in the morning)

The stuff needs to come off so she will be able to properly defecate. I would soak her for about 10 more minutes in warm epsom salt bath while gently trying to pick the stuff off.
After drying her well, apply some oil to soften it, in case it did not come off entirely.

This problem often happens with rumpless chicks too.

Do you have lactulose stool softener? It helps really good to flush everything out.

ETA: She will need something to perch on for the night, as sitting on the ground all the time while defecating will have her poop stuck to her butt.

She has been standing in the corner of the nesting box. I haven't seen her sit down at all today. She also didn't eat today but we got her to take a few sips of water when we washed her. Husband is heading to Walgreens the next town over to try to get everything we need. Didn't have epsom salts so he'll get that and the stuff to splint her toe. You are so helpful thank you again! I hope we can get the stuff loose she seems uncomfortable. There's no "poop" since the injury, just this leaking poo.

She will probably not eat unless she can defecate properly, so it is important to get the stuff off and get her digestion going. So try to pop some more frozen coconut oil into her beak, she should have the amount of a full teaspoon twice a day to get things moving.

I hope the storm is subsiding and your husband will be safe out there.

Ok, will do. I would say she's been getting maybe a half teaspoon since yesterday so I'll give her some more. Definitely don't want to lose her! This has been a journey for sure!

I’m following your experience and hoping for a good outcome. You certainly are providing the loving care needed. You could thread a stick for roosting through the wire of the dog cage. It would help keep her clean however with her toe do you think she could perch?
