We have a young cuckoo maran (6-7 months) She appears to be ill. Her symptomsare as follows: She seems to be puffed up, doesn't make a sound, she does not have a strong appetite, has beak open most of time, unsteady on her feet, has wet poos, but not bloody. We do not want to lose her. Does this sound like anything familiar? We are keeping her in the house and away from the rest of the flock.

Sounds like coccidiosis, which does not always present with bloody stools. The ruffled appearance and the lack of appetite, combined with loose stools all point to coccidiosis. The commonly accepted treatment for this is sulfonamides or amprolium.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Are there any other symptoms to look for with Coccidiosis? Anything that would mimic an upper respiratory infection without any nasal discharge or occasional head shaking? Also would it show up in a fecal test?
