You can trust Spook to be faithful, loyal and honest.
Sort of like a boy scout Spook...
But you can also trust a Spook to do what comes naturally.
Spooks are...spooks.
It's just how we are.
The maze...I don't know just how it's going to play out this
year. As you know, it was in my woods last yeat. What a blast
it was.
First time ever, my dad was involved. He drove the tractor hauling
people up and down the hill. Even then he knew he was sick. When
he didn't feel well, he had my uncle do the driving. Dad really seemed
to enjoy finally being a part.
This year isn't looking so good.
Not only for my dad, as the cancer takes him away. But for my mother
as she watches. For me, my wife, our daughter. My brother, his family.
It's a waiting game with a certain end.
And a whole little town waits.
This year the fire department has again planted their cornfield. Not as a
first plan, but as a backup. For they know that dads time left is uncertain.
It could very well be October.
So many things left unsaid because there are no words. Without being told,
I know that they --as my neighbors, and as my brothers-- will stand beside
me when that time comes. Just as I know the reason they planted the corn
That they leave us time to heal if need be.
Right now, they don't have me figured as a major player this October. I don't
have the answer.
Props...some I've built that are only for my woods. Can't allow them to be
cornfield stuff. My woods are private. Only way in is through my yard. Protected.
The corn is unprotected at night, and during the week. It has been destroyed a
time or two. Let's be kind and say lesser props go to the corn.
But if October works out for Dad...the woods are ready. Mowed, cleaned. I still
need to cut a few more limbs from the other day. But the woods are there, waiting.
And Dad gets in the woods when he feels able. On that golf cart. And Hana has
been learning to drive in the woods this year. I made a new picnic table for the
woods. It's still in my yard right now, but it goes on the cemetery in the woods.
I've thought about putting some of the dummies in the woods for dad right now
anyway.
Anyway...back to our regular scheduled nonsense.
