In my experience a 'self weld' never holds for long.

I don't know who's been singing that to the frogs around here, but we have at least one frog that seems to want to be kissed. Baby

She brought him into the house to show me. I barely had time to recognize him as a frog when he launched himself at my face. Those little grippy toes feel pretty funny on your lower lip, you know?

After I peeled the frog off my face, I almost had to peel BB2K off the floor . . . .she looked kinda like this

Totally depends on which "welder" is better

I agree, totally! A temporary fix, no doubt. However, even when you have an expert do your welding for you, and no matter how skilled he may be, and no matter how satisfied you are when he's done -- before you know it, it needs to be done again.

That's the beauty of good welding or a good welder.

Hey Sour, I've been busy here. As for self welds, with enough practice one can get very satisfactory results. . . . . but it's still hard to beat professional type results.
