Many years ago on the way back from visiting our son and his family we stopped at a Howard Johnson's. Our food was fine, but there was a young couple at the next table who had a problem. She had ordered a grilled cheese. They sent it back twice, and it came back with cold, unmelted cheese each time. The waitress finally said, "We use the kind of cheese that doesn't melt."

As she walked away the husband in utter frustration said, "They can't even melt cheese in this ****ing place." This place is long closed, but each time we pass I ask the Princess, "Want to stop in for a grilled cheese sandwich?"

This is a true story. You couldn't make up something like that.

That's one of the things that is fun about being married for a long time - the running gags and inside jokes.

I suppose there is always the two-step method for grilled cheese - get the outside done to your liking, and nuke it for a few seconds to melt the cheese - though that may result in soggy bread.

Or, you can do what I did, and marry someone who CAN make a grilled cheese. MFB's grilled cheese are always perfect.

Well, you just can't offer some services through a drive-thru. I mean, I guess you could, but it sure would make things a little more difficult.




I just realized I'm the Queen. Doesn't this mean I can BAN drive-thrus? I just don't know what to think about you Spook. Cheating on little ol' me in such a brazen way! Even BRAGGING about it. What has our relationship come to? I'm just heartbroken.
