*sigh* I'm loosing my touch. (Warning: Hi-jacked by Em)

When we had this house built, there was an "allowance" for appliances. We already owned a washer and dryer, and Critter was adamant - "who needs a dishwasher? You gotta wash the dishes before you put them in there anyway."

Is it Critter's job? Around here if I made that statement, it would become my job. Hey, I'm the cook.

I am the dishwasher. And cook. At least we have automatic clothes washer and dryer.
Maybe next year kitchen remodel with a automatic dishwasher.

Nah, can't get that in just one year.

I find age 6 is ok, but still results in some breakage, 8 and up are very good, but none are 'stand alone and work' models. However, they do great when kept in view.

People would ask my mother if she had a dishwasher, and she'd say, "Oh, yes," and look at me.

I don't remember exactly, but I think it was at about age 8 that I became a "stand alone" model, at least part of the time. Getting my older brother involved usually resulted in WWlll, but once my younger brother got old enough to be useful (he and I are twins, born 6 years apart), I'd wash, he'd dry. Mom would clear the table, then she'd say, "OK, you two; it's all yours." We'd invent games or find other ways to amuse ourselves, so it wasn't so tedious (cue Mary Poppins' "A Spoonful of Sugar")

Sometimes, we'd be like

and my mother would wander through the kitchen, look at us, and say, "nobody can have that much fun washing dishes!"

I can picture the look on her face and the shake of her head as she said that. Smile worthy story for sure - thanks.

My older sister and I were the "stand alone" models. I started at 7 when mom had my little sister. My older sister had a trick she'd use 3 or 4 nights a week. We had to clear the table. She would pick up the glasses and put them in the sink with the dish soap and start the water running. Then she would say "I'll be back in a minute". She would go to the bathroom and be back just after the table was cleared washed and the silverware was added to the water. We also had to rinse the plates before they were washed. ( Dad was a strict dishwashing manager and had strict rules about how it got done). To this day my sister insists that she really did need to use the bathroom. :lau

Mitch, Sour is a good cook. Tonight I'm making pan fried steak, baked potatoes, carrots, and a Bibb lettuce/tomato/Mozzarella cheese with Balsamic vinaigrette salad. Want to meat us for dinner down by the moats???????
