I didn’t actually expect him to go straight from honking (still with a few peeps) straight to crowing (well hooting really).

They sound so funny with the 1st crows. 2 weeks and it sounds like an actual crow.

I’ll go back over video footage to confirm, but I’m pretty sure that is a first.
He definitely didn’t give any attempt first thing yesterday morning, and he seems to have spent the day running for his life as I kept them locked in the Chicken Palace and both Calypso and Pooh were patrolling like the shark in Jaws!

We lost Dana last night. She was 8-1/2 & fell asleep in DH's arms. She was eating & drinking right to the last day. She jumped off her perch at roost & DH kept checking on her every hour & finally at about 1:00 a.m, brought her in. DH was Dana's human so it was a bittersweet end. DH is really missing her. We'll miss how good she & all the other Dom's were w/ our littles over the years. We were preparing ourselves to eventually lose an older hen but it's still so sad when they're gone

We are now officially an all-Silkies flock remaining. This will be our last flock as we are no longer spring chickens ourselves any more!

Yup - that was a crow - congratulations! And it wasn't half bad actually! They sure do sound hilarious though don't they?

My chickens would be hiding under that - they already like to hide under my long winter coat hahaha. Wonder how many chooks will fit under there?! (meanwhile those slip on mules are cute but gosh I almost broke an ankle once wearing mine!).

Well, in young cockerels, I've heard crowing, 2, I think, and seen a wing shuffle from Jax. I saw a chase from Mortimer today...might have caught it on this video. Chia was NOT impressed, and he didn't catch so much as a feather. Tuff has seemed to take over as boss roo for the moment. Cheetah is finishing up his moult, but hanging with the ladies again. Whiskey is mostly staying off alone (Pear near him) as his moult is hitting him hard this year. His head has been a mass of pins for the last week minimum. Still no young'ens crowing on camera.

Dakota overshot the runway this morning, when she flew down from her perch. In her embarrassment, she came up to me asking for breakfast.
She wasn’t hurt, but she knows our family has wings, and should know how to use them!!
