*sigh* I'm loosing my touch. (Warning: Hi-jacked by Em)

For all the youngsters who don't believe old people...

"We were so poor I had a rock for a toy."

Today I found my rock. Thought it was gone years ago.
I was walking in the woods behind mom and dads house.
And there it was...

I knew it the second I saw it. That was my rock. Should of
been two of them, but only found one. Big flat rock, worn
smooth on top. Had a pointy end.

My brother Mike and I had a rock each in the back yard.
There, we played catch by the hours. Or threw the frisbee.
Tag.

All the games brothers play.

Went and got my tractor and a wagon and brought my rock
home, I did. Put my rock in my flowerbed, I did. And I stood
on it, and I sat on it.

And I remembered.

My brother Mike has been gone 27 years, two months and
one day. I'd sure like to throw that ball one more time with
him.

Picture of me and Mike on my parents wall. We were playing
marbles out in the yard.

So I reckon I'll just keep my rock. I like it a whole lot.

Spook, you're right, everyone should have a rock. I have one in my yard, it was placed there by the landscaper, but I like it anyway, I like sitting on it better than a chair - my thinking is clearer on the rock.

Thinking back, in all the places we lived when I was a kid, we never lived in a place that had rocks - at least, not like that. Shoot, one place had been so deeply scoured by glaciers, we barely had soil. Did have trees, though, and yes, I sometimes had "my" tree.

Enjoy your rock, Spook. May the memories it stirs warm your heart.

Yes, I loved my tree - it helped me through a lot of crap.

I had railroad tracks. There is nothing like walking on railroad tracks in the middle of the woods. So peaceful and quiet. I would walk for a little while and then sit on the rails and think about whatever was bothering me. Course, had to get up and let a train go by every now and then. lol Once I found a little pond off the side of the tracks. Went down to investigate it and found a fallen tree. So my "therapy" after that was walk down the tracks, go down to the pond and sit on the log watching turtles and frogs and dragonflies. Now I go watch chickens.
