I’m needing some help! Can’t tell if my chick is a roo or pullet. This is my very first time ever to have chickens and I’m so excited. This is my husbands chick and we’re reallt hoping it’s a girl.

Hi all! First post, and first year with chickens, so bear with me.

We picked up six chicks from tractor supply 3 weeks ago. 2 Rhode Island Red, 2 ISA Browns, and 2 Barred Rock, all sexed. But I know its not an exact science, and I'm concerned one of our Rocks is a cockerel. It's comb is the biggest and reddest of any of them, but him and the other Rock are the largest chicks, and both have larger and redder combs than the rest. Feet have dark on them, but not as much as the other rock.

The two together

The one in question:

The pullet:

And an ISA Brown for reference.

All the rest have very small yellow combs, so I'm not sure if the Rocks are just bigger or older, and further mature, or if I'm just fooling myself and its a roo.

Any consensus? Thanks!!

Any help?

Whoever helps me out thank you so so much. I love knowing what the genders will be so I can start thinking of names and make sure I’m not cursed with rooster being thrown at me:lol:

Hmmm could be a Roo. Barred rock roosters have more white and appear lighter in color and based on how he/she looks next to the pullet it seems lighter. Also the comb is redder. I'd say Rooster.

Oh and if the feet are lighter than that is another factor that he is indeed a Roo!
