I signed the petition! Dont care what anyone thinks either! There is always a better way than justing KILLING something...We live in a world with just to many HEARTLESS people..

They don't try to find feral cats a home because its basically impossible. Most ferals can't become loving housecats they've been so detached for humans for so long. I expect the issue they're having is that the muscovies are eating the native population into an early grave. And all they're trying to do is alleviate the problem, and save the native birds.

I am sorry but I have to agree that reducing the population of a non native species is neccasary.. Honestly there are soo many native animals that need our help right now in the world , that I dont think it fair to fight to save a non native ,invasive species.... If it is feasible to capture and sell these ducks , give me a petition to sign and I am on it..

Maybe try to convince them to sell the ducks and use the money to repair any damages they have caused, or to pay for the relocation fees... Maybe see if you can find a zoo, petting zoo, 4-H , or University Ag Dept.. Possibly they can use these ducks for testing to see what effects may have happened from them not being in there natural environment... Just some suggestions... I personally don't get up in arms about these issues until i have atleast given a moment to seeking alternatives....

I hope they find a way to not have to cull these ducks ...

you know, I love muscovies to death, I think they're absolutely gorgious.

alot of people live muscovies but can never find any, it took me YEARS to find my drake, Squeaks, and then it was a chance by luck that I found my hen Rosilee at an auction.

they simply ought to start catching young ducks, and placing them in homes that want them as pets, though it may not do much for the "population" atleast if they're in a home, they arn't threatening the "wild" fowl.

muscovies have been here for so long that, like the european starling, they ought to be considered a native species.

it's dumb in my mind.

ETA and as for feral cats, thats a mite bit different, cats are actually VERY hard to breed, you ever tryed to intentionally GET a cat pregnant?, it seems like when you're wanting them to, they take forever, but when you have a feral around, theres kittens popping out the woodwork!.and no, they usually don't try to find ferals homes, because they don't want to take them time.

I've taken in several feral kittens, and they've all turned out the most loving cats(except for my grandfathers cat, who doesn't like anyone but him).

This is still going on in FL? It has been happening for years, usually its in communities that have grown up around golf courses or parks. Seems to crop up every so often.

They put the ducks in because they are hardy and to look pretty, lending that "natural" air to the landscape people like.
Then they realize too late that ducks reproduce. When I lived in Key West, certain areas of the island were infested with them.

They should just declare a sort of 'open season' on them and sell exclusive permits to harvest them. That way they could generate some revenue and they will go quickly to a good purpose.

i dunno.... so they are over populated, there are hungry people in this country, ducks are food - especially muscovies ... humm. or here's a thought what if they gave all that meat to a local shelter?

i'm not sure this is cruel i think its the only way they have right now to deal with it. what would they do with 200 ducks until someone adopted them? i've never understood livestock that isnt used for food in cases like this. giving it to a shelter - human or animal so its not a waste

or like Davaroo said - it would be a good hunting opportunity.

Yeah, we took in two ferals from the Toronto Humane Society, they came fixed and everything. They don't like humans much, and pretty much serve as mouse-controllers around the farm though we feed them at the house.

This is a load of crap....no pun intended. Go down to the park and see the mess they make, crap everywhere on the sidewalk and street. There used to be several wild species of ducks there; I havent seen them in a year. Everyone signing that petition should put their money where their mouth is, and go adopt one. Im sick and tired of do-gooders who do nothing more than run their mouths. If you're so against it, go do something about it. I bet not one of those signers could even FIND Tuscawilla Park, much less have even seen the mess these ducks make.
