I keep hearing about this whole "squating" thing and I have 5 laying now (none are my ees) and only 1 squats and she didn't start doing this until she'd been laying for a month. The rest just run away when you reach for them.
Tricky girls.
I have 2 older EE's that are laying and they are 10mos old....and these are the two, Sunshine she is dark with golden colors
and Jewels:
Jewels and Sunshines Eggs
and now I have new EE's also that I added to these bunch that are 20wks...they are 10 of them, I noticed that 4 had red wattles and combs now...so Im waiting!!!!
these are just 3 of them...they are all beautiful.
So I guess there is not SET time for them to start laying???
My EE began laying toward the end of January, at 19 1/2 weeks. Her comb wasn't very red (and still isn't), she had been checking out the nest box a tiny bit, but not nearly as much as a few of the other girls, and she wasn't much of a quatter. Now, on THAT day, I only had to walk by her on the way to the coop and she squatted big time...and sure enough she'd layed a tiny green egg. So I think they're all different...
