So... Hatchery style? You are right. It's the reason I never like to buy trios. I buy 3 roosters and 3 hens so I have insurance.
I'm thinking of breeding two single breeds in big flocks...like 25 each breed. That way I can feed all of them in one barn rather than 30 different pens![]()
Not quite, more like a cattle nucleolus style. I have huge runs and barns so they would get quite a lot of space.So... Hatchery style?
I just went with someone to purchase Brahmas which she raised like that and it didn't look like each bird got as much attention as it should.
Ah okay. Good practice. Not quite, more like a cattle nucleolus style. I have huge runs and barns so they would get quite a lot of space.
The way it works is by hatching 500 eggs per year and keeping only the top 5% of the chicks hatched
It's a pretty common way to preserve a breed without having to worry about inbreeding stuffAh okay. Good practice.![]()
Hmm. I didn't know thatIt's a pretty common way to preserve a breed without having to worry about inbreeding stuff![]()

Might have to try that with a few breeds of interest.

Are you breeding DC to show? Do you have any stock yet? I got my trio from a show goer in VA and the birds are beautiful.I'm going with Dark Cornish cause of the comb type and body mass and I am breeding RIW's to help the breed get off to a good start in this country
Yes I am looking to be breeding DC as exhibition birds. I unfortunately don't have any good birds as of yet. I'm gonna be doing more research on importing into Canada so I can get the best DC's I can findAre you breeding DC to show? Do you have any stock yet?
