Silence Is Not Golden Here

Pics
It's so quiet here. There are no fireworks being set off at all - nor last night. For once, a little bit of common sense! Probably the result of having fifty thousand acres or so of wildfire crawling up the hills on both sides of the valley last summer. Amazing how effective that is at reminding people that things burn.
Amazing indeed! Unfortunately people started with the fireworks here yesterday afternoon. Had to catch a spooked cat, I’m glad I don’t have horses anymore.

I’m not looking forward to the amount of strays we’ll be getting with the fireworks + flood worthy rains this week.

@KikisGirls what sausage is your preferred one? I import mine from Iowa (the city, not pronounced like the state, before y'all start! Right near Lacassine and Ardoin's Cove. Look it up.) since I couldn't find any worthy in Texas. When we run back to Lake Charles, we get Rabideaux's (ice chest FULL) and Market Basket's smoked jalapeno boudin with strawberry milk. :drool:drool:drool Rabideaux's is the ONLY sausage that I cook gumbo with now. Better than the andouille that I tried. I cook the sausage and use the seasoned grease to make the roux with the groullion. Oh, my. Let her cook for 8 hours. Too bad it isn't gumbo weather...

I actually haven't ever had any trouble with my horses due to fireworks! If I hunted (Don't like the taste of venison; therefor no reason to hunt) I'd have my bay in particular trained as a gun horse, and it probably wouldn't take any effort at all. As a 'crazy, wild filly, one of those flighty wild mustangs that never settle down' fresh from the holding facility, she kept trying to steal the power tools while I was working on projects inside the pasture - while I was in the process of using them. She's the one that got hold of a huge black plastic trash bag... and was stampeding from one end of the pasture to the other. I thought it was stuck on her and she was in a panic - no. She was holding it in her mouth and running to make it crackle in the wind. Tarp training; fifteen minutes and she picked up the other end of the tarp I was dragging to follow me with it, half an hour and it was wrapped over her head, around her legs, and she was complaining because she wanted her ears scratched. The palomino took the cue from her. I tried to pick out horses that seemed calm and level-headed.... I think I succeeded.

Luckily our horses don’t seem to be fazed by the fireworks, they were more freaked out by seeing me walk out into the pasture at 11:30 at night to check on them.

North Texas will gladly take some of the rain from you guys. :D

Cool. You can have my rain. The rains drowned and killed all of my flowers. At least the volunteer blackberries are thriving.

My dog is fine as well. Doesn’t faze him. Too bad boxers are non-sporting lol. He’d be a great hunting dog if there were any instincts there at all :lau

She sounds like a hoot! When I had horses, I knew absolutely nothing about them, nor did anyone else in our neighborhood. They were spoiled expensive lawn ornaments, to be polite. One would start racing down the fence and work all the others up. I am now blessed to work with horses like your own on my in-laws ranch and I’m never looking back lol.
