It went great.
I show at this fair (I can't remember if I posted about the first or second fair. I show at the first one.)
I am trying to buy good stock but these are county fairs so it's difficult.
Thankfully, I already have the contacts of one reserve best breeder who is setting eggs next week and another breeder who may occasionally have birds for sale. I also can get the contact of another local breeder who is hatching this summer.
I have the contact for someone who ships eggs and I have a great resource in a retired champion breeder.

I am finally getting somewhere.

Out of curiosity, what is the end goal? I'm always interested with what people are using their chickens for. I love the whole breeding for standard niche. I definitely would never have the patience for it, but I love seeing it.

Over the 4th, my neighbor asked if I had a broody hen with chicks that I wanted to sell. Their granddaughter really wanted some chicks. I have broodies with chicks, but I want to keep all those hens and babies. So I came up with a different solution for them. Last week, I put a dozen mixed flock eggs in the incubator and I'll be taking one of my Franken-bators up to their house so their granddaughter can watch them hatch. I grabbed a few eggs from the hens I sold so they would get a nice mix of colors. I had to go into some of our older eggs so I set a dozen of them instead of the 8 eggs I was planning just in case some of the eggs didn't develop. Wouldn't you know it, EVERY SINGLE EGG is developing!I'll offer to take the chicks back if they don't want to keep them, but I'm hoping they do want to keep them I just got rid of a lot of mutts.
