Silence Is Not Golden Here

Blu-Kote does not stop ruptured blisters from itching. This is the lesson for the day. It DOES, however, get all over anything you touch unless you scour your hands thoroughly.

Yes, I did just test the bottle I bought on myself.

I put neosporin with pain relief on popped blisters and put a bandaid over that. That stops the itching.

Oh, the Hydrocolloid bandages work nicely as well, but I have a hard time keeping them on. They are best left on for 4-5 days, but if the edges start peeling, I start going crazy trying not to peel it.

At least I can say that it doesn't sting or burn at all! That's not the case for all 'pain-free' animal disinfectants. Ever used Schreiner's Herbal Solution on yourself? That stuff is worse than straight rubbing alcohol! It's like shoving a hot coal into the wound. After discovering that, I always test disinfectant/wound treatments on myself before I use them on my animals.

Though... I still grab the bottle of Schreiners to use on me if I run out of other options. Just won't use it on my animals. I know the risks - they don't understand why they get hurt.

The bandage I had on there started peeling, and I took it off - whereupon it started itching. Right on the inside web of the thumb, too! It has neosporin and a bandage on it again now, since the Blu-Kote didn't work. It still itches horrendously.

My silkied Serama girl now has a comb and tiny wattles. But she does not squat for the cockerel - and he shows absolutely no interest in her, though she tags along with him wherever he goes and he protects her from getting picked on. Her vent has expanded, but I've seen no sign of eggs - from her OR my EE pullet who looked like she should be laying some a couple weeks ago, and who has been periodically squatting. I think it's just too hot for them to produce eggs right now. Incidentally, I think my hopes of a Serama/EE cross are in vain, unless I get some EE bantams. Copper finally figured out what to do when Ash squatted... sort of... but he never got anywhere near her tail!
