We have 5 chickens that we got and we have one silkie. I am very worried about her getting picked up by a hawk as her sisters are bigger and more nimble. Are there any tips to keep them safe while free ranging or is it best to re-home her? All my girls are free range at this point and I REALLY dont want to get rid of her. (my daughter has already started crying of just the thought of it!) Thanks in advance. We do not have a rooster or a dog.

My solution would be to buy another silkie or two and keep them locked in a run while the others are foraging. I'm not sure I'd keep a lone silkie as they are prone to being picked on by other breeds. If you cannot keep her in a safe area, it would be best to rehome her. She would be an easy target for any predator, and that would be harder on your child than giving her away.
