Silkies, from what I've learned, are notoriously hard to sex. We do have some silkie experts around here and maybe one of them will chime in. They're adorable. Here's Pippin, my little guy or girl.

I've read that the heavier the feathering on the feet, the more likely it's male. But you'd have to compare it to another one of the same age. And I still think that is mostly anecdotal.

As they get older, the males (I believe) will have more obvious comb growth and they'll get streamers, feathers that are longer on the backs of their heads. Again, wait for the experts, lol.

Silkies are very hard to sex young, like mentioned above. Usually, 8 weeks is a good starting point for guessing, but some can take longer to mature and show their true colors.
Males do tend to get bigger and wider combs as they grow, which can sometimes be a hint in younger chicks, but not this young.
Streamers and other male-specific feathers don't appear till much later, but they are a sure way to know you have a cockerel when they do come in.
