Don't forget when you see those GORGEOUS white puff balls all the work it took to keep them from getting stained and cleaning them up for a show and then KEEPING them clean until they are judged. Not that you wouldn't need to really clean a blue or black or partridge just as clean, but some colors are more forgiving than others. Black you can get wrong color down that shows through the outer feathers, or they may be the perfect color as young birds and then the hackles grow in with odd color highlights. Lavender is not a recognized color.
 
Yes, every variety has its joys and pitfalls. I like what Gamblergirl said, "Then what color makes you smile."

I would recommend that you join the American Silkie Bantam Club--you will be able to meet lots of other silkie breeders--and we have a great junior program.
