Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

yes true...at least he IS a pretty yard ornament...I was never thinking of showing him by any stretch of the imagination...just an interesting silkie...thanks y'all...when I get some babies from him I will post pics...

but we agree that he is a splash but just a crazy colored splash...

Quote: He IS a striking bird, but just WHERE does he fit in the standard ? Silkie people please remember that you are breeding for type first, and color second. Without BOTH, you will just have pretty yard ornaments.
My new mantra is..."type makes the breed, color makes the variety" and "build the barn before you paint it".

This is similar to the blue I asked about earlier this morning... he looks almost Cuckoo to me. May I ask where you got your eggs?(if you did buy them) I haven't taken pics of my boy but they look strikingly similar. My eggs came from a local gal by me in NY.
Now I really need to get some pics up .

well I actually thought we WERE talking about colors/varieties????? and I thought the conversation was about light vs dark splash ect and background colors and what makes a splash a splash..just like everyone was for the blacks...

yes yes we all get it about having 'typey' silkies and many of us starting out are hoping to learn from each other on here with constructive critiques and supportive comments...not all of us are showing, growing , or breeding blue ribbon silkies..but that's not to say we wouldn't like to...

I am confused.. the Splash Cockerel with the light blue background is incorrect? what about this girl ?

I don't know...but that lighter splash roo first is the type of bird I was hoping to get and still am if I hatch some chicks...to me I think that splash is what a splash looks like but I am no expert at all...

I think your splash above looks great...are splash meant to be light to white with blue 'blobs' or 'light blue' with darker blue 'blobs'?
