Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Quote: Opal is a problem as a name in that it is already being used by OEGB for a variety that I think has already been either approved or had at least one qualifying meet. And they are not the same phenotype or genotype as the silkie "porcelains."

So do you have a variety name recommendation???

Before we name it, how about we have ONE working standard to work with. The "porcelains" I see mentioned are all over the board on phenotype. IMO, GM is the one who should determine what the working standard should be as he is the creator of the variety in silkies. By the same token, he should name it.

2012 Canadian National had all bearded: black, blue, white, splash, and my AOV whatever the club decides to call them porcelain/blue cream/opal. (I also know of folks working with Buff and Partridge and I'm still hoping for self blue so maybe next year .... )

I would be more than happy to follow GM's lead .... (his name was mentioned by the judge at the Canadian Nationals)

Opal OEGB: (from https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/2488/rare-chicken-colors post 10)

I am the first to admit that I am a newbie. Purchased my "porcelains" with my eyes wide open as a project colour. I keep getting told that my pullet is on the mark which makes me want to move forward with her. Just wish I knew what that mark was.
