Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Opal is a problem as a name in that it is already being used by OEGB for a variety that I think has already been either approved or had at least one qualifying meet. And they are not the same phenotype or genotype as the silkie "porcelains."

Christina brought Porcelians/Isabel (whatever we are calling them) to E. Nationals and the judges had her label them with a name I now forget. Hopefully she will pop back up and tell you what they wanted. Which is interesting... because no one seems to know what GM wants to call them, even though I've read on other groups, the ASBC site, etc that they will ask him. Has he never responded? Or is he still pondering?

pearl gray like

the brahms
WOW, these are gorgeous! I have never seen this color! Is this called Pearl Grey for Brahms? They are stunning!

Those remind me of Lemon Blue. I would LOVE to have this colour in any breed.

I showed a black cockerel and a blue that was tagged incorrectly that I didn't catch/correct. My black took first in his class but he was the only one! Seems like the poor judge didn't know what to do with my blue and his screwy tag so there was just a whole lot of scribbling on the card. Frank Goodfellow had that magnificent white hen (BB) and the big Blue cock. I've got some work to do to give him and his brood a run for their money!!! But I'm all in .... !

Will make sure the tag is correct next time!

Jamie Carson had given me Frank's contact info to get some Ameraucanas. I was not prepared to travel 18 hours with a bunch of chickens (and a gander) in a Corolla. Imagine the stink? :sick

But this was a while ago. I had planned on getting a trio or something from him, but decided against it this year. Kind of kicking myself. I wanted to work with White Ameraucanas too. Probably one of the only breeds I like in White.. Though the white rocks at the show were AWESOME.
