Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Thanks Sonoran, it will be interesting to see what it turns out to be. I will post pics once he feathers out to get some feedback on it's quality. I've got a nice bunch of BBS Silkies right now that came from CJ's Silkies and Catdance. I'll be showing those a little bit next year for fun. I've also got two really lovely white Silkie hens from Catdance. I intended to start a breeding flock using them with my gorgeous white roo but sadly lost him a couple of months ago so for now I'll just show them until I find another white roo of similar quality. It would be fun to have another interesting bird to show with this little guy but we will have to see what he turns out to be!

I don't know if it is something in the water but.....from other people I know personally and what I have seen around on some of the threads....there are a good abundance of chicks like the one above popping up. I have had 3...a friend 2 and others. Now....a vet told me one time that every 7 or so years there will be a good amount of black kittens show up in litters. I wonder if it is possible this could happen in the chicken world or...is it just a genetic progress in breeding. I think that came out right.

Really interesting!

I remember your "China Doll" suggestion. I believe you made the suggestion at the time of our Canadian National (in October) when I was trying to determine how to enter my birds. Personally, I like the name "Opal" as it makes sense to me because of how the birds look. But I like "China Doll" better than the not quite right colour combinations so it would be my second choice.

Perhaps the ASBC will get a poll going on the forum over there? Submit some names and have folks like George and Marty decide what should be on the list. Then let the membership vote and decide?

I do hope they do this....
