Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

I actually have a hen like this, no feathers on the middle toe...I bred her to a white roo with HEAVY foot feathering. Their chick is 8 wks and has super feathering.

Thank you! I am very happy with this little chick, now I am hoping for good wings....fingers crossed.

The numbers are points off. Don't know why the one didn't line up when I copied it.
And I was thinking it was a DQ. Good to know.
Where did you find this?? I had a webpage once upon a time with all these points and what the birds get judged on. I lost the darn page! Is this it??

I have a question for people who ship and hatch shipped eggs

I ordered silkie eggs..I have raised chickens for 35 years...but never Silkies
I have treated these eggs like I have treated all shipped eggs I have ever had.
They should be in lock down today but I need some advise

The air cells are small..but I have air cells
The chicks use very little of the egg. Just the top half of the egg is being used, the bottom half is clear liquid..I am freaking out a bit.

My temp is spot on and I used 4 thermometers to be safe. I dry hatch because my house humidity is 50% the inside of the incubator stayed at 30%. I raised that to 40-45% today.I have never seen the bottom of an egg clear at lock down. The embryo's are active.

Could this be normal?

I honestly don't remember my eggs being clear at the bottom, but if your embryo's are active it sounds like everything is okay.

I'm thinking your eggs didn't lose enough water for some reason. I would put off lockdown until the day before hatching. I hatch in the upright position in egg cartoons because I feel it helps to prevent them from drowning if the fluid levels are high. Here's a good candling site. If your air cells are noticeably smaller, I would definitely wait for a later lockdown. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation
