Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

I have a question on wattle color. My blue SG roo's are a maroon color instead of black...should they be this color and do you think it will throw the same color in chicks. Will try to get a pic tomorrow.
Thanks

Quote: This is good advise, Thank you. I am very familiar with candling, however these look nothing like a regular egg at any phase. They are Catdance eggs and I already had 12 infertile and 3 early quitters. I do not want to loose any more eggs. I will do as you have suggested. Thank you so much...I have other LF eggs also in the bator..they will be fine on lower humidity.

I'm thinking your eggs didn't lose enough water for some reason. I would put off lockdown until the day before hatching. I hatch in the upright position in egg cartoons because I feel it helps to prevent them from drowning if the fluid levels are high. Here's a good candling site. If your air cells are noticeably smaller, I would definitely wait for a later lockdown. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation
Do you make a hole at the bottom of the egg cartons?

That's it! Thank you.

Could we see a whole picture of this little wooly booger????

The ideal color is the deep mulberry. Post some pictures when you have some. I'm sure someone can help out.

Mom
Dad, crowing of course.

Splash babies can also be very light in color out of the egg, but your baby did look like it is white.

Very nice!!! Yeah, I thought she was splash and that's what I was expecting, but now I'm not so sure. It's OK, whichever. My gorgeous white girls were killed in a raccoon attack and I haven't had any in over a year. It seems like the white ones have so much more feathering. They would dirt bathe and just look like dirty monsters, but the next day were so sparkiling clean they could have gone to a show. It always amazes me.

Thanks! Whites definitely add a certain something to a flock. I'm so sorry for your loss.

That particular color just seems to be a target for predators, I also lost my first white birds to a predator. Just terrible. You are lucky that your whites stayed so clean! Mine on the other hand, need to good bath, when it warms up.

While I was taking pics of the white, I also grabbed some of the chicks that hatched yesterday
a splash baby.
