Excellent, more information on their background. If he had Partridge stripes when he was little then yes, with one cross you can get partridge if the hen is a carrier too. Its there - and prominent enough to show on the chick down. My crosses done with a Partridge roo x Buff and two Blues - I have 10 chicks with Partridge stripes! I looked at the Buff hen really carefully and I could see the partridge markings on her wings and chest - so I am closer than I thought because she would be called a "Smutty Buff" and her brothers would show black on their tails and wings. I also got about 10 Blue/Silver chicks with no partridge stripes, so now I know the rooster is actually Black because I didn't get any Splash. Got one black chick... and one white one. Rooster carries white and one hen does too. Some of those Chicks will now throw white.![]()
I am going to keep all the females from this batch and cross them back to the Partridge rooster. Even the blue ones carry partridge now (if they didn't before). Chances would then be 50/50 to get partridges instead of solids. I suspect the Blue Frizzle hen carries partridge as her chicks were half Blonde Partridge and half Blue. The other Blue doesn't carry partridge, all of her eggs were blue chicks.
The white in most Silkies is recessive white and it needs two copies to show. If you were getting 25% white then your rooster carries white and one hen carries white. The results would be 50% white carrier, 25% white and 25% not a white carrier.
If you cross White x White all babies will have two copies, that's why they are all white. If you cross white to another color that doesn't carry white then none of the babies will look white, but all will carry white - for the next generation.
I suspect the gentleman who is arguing that you will not get Partridge from a Buff x Blue cross isn't allowing for the mixed genetics of most Silkies. Very few have "Pure" lines with no mixes. The best way to see - is to DO IT!
